After attending an information session in Springburn Job Centre, Fwas registered with All in Glasgow, looking to build his knowledge in Care, however he was also looking to build his network of friends and connections, as he felt he needed this to start his journey into the world of work and to build his support circle.

Additional to the above, Fwas had identified his barriers as the following:

  • He is a refugee
  • Long Term Unemployed
  • Low Income Family

Fwas received support in class to develop his understanding of the world of Care, which in turn built his understanding of the job market. He participated in workshops designed to develop his knowledge of CV building, understanding job ads, interview preparation and how to navigate the world of work when employed.

He was then fully prepared to carry out a mock interview with the course Care Team Managers. This was set up to create a realistic interview environment; he was given a time and venue to attend and then answer questions he would be asked within a real interview. Feedback from the Care Manager was that Fwas was well prepared, articulate and answered all the competency-based questions to a high standard. At the end of his interview, feedback was that if this was a real-life interview, he would have been offered a position.

Fwas felt his biggest achievement was the completion of his research project in class. He designed a PowerPoint presentation on Cultural Diversity as part of his ICT Level 4 project. He was very proud of the presentation he had developed, and he agreed to push himself out of his comfort zone and deliver his PowerPoint to a group of 26 peers. He successfully delivered an engaging, powerful, interactive presentation during their graduation service and received excellent feedback from his peers, which in turn, boosted his confidence greatly.

He was absolutely delighted that he had achieved such positive feedback and stated that he had become inspired to become a Trainer during his time on the Care Academy programme and this was just confirmation that perhaps his employment journey should take a turn toward training.

Fwas attended an appointment with Grass Roots to supply him with the appropriate interview clothing in preparation for any interviews in the future.

All in Glasgow continue to support Fwas with regular check ins to support him in achieving his next steps into employment or further education now he has recently completed the Care Academy.
