GRID extends from the University of Glasgow campus at Gilmorehill to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and includes the communities of Govan, Linthouse, and Partick. The University of Glasgow is adopting a whole-systems approach to economic development within GRID, leveraging its research expertise and convening power to support entrepreneurship and attract high-value industry to co-locate and develop opportunities for local jobs in Govan.
In collaboration with its partners, the University is actively embracing its role as a key contributor to economic development-related projects. The objective is to deepen engagement with local communities, establish new partnerships and collaborations, and deliver a lasting legacy of economic and social benefit across the region. This is primarily focused on GRID, an area of c.700 acres encompassing the River Clyde and land on both the northern and southern banks.
Clyde Waterfront Innovation Campus is a landmark location within the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District. Anchored by the Health Innovation Hub that opened in March 2026, future development of the Campus will support the growth of the Clinical Innovation Zone at the neighbouring Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Investment Opportunities
There are a number of potential investible opportunities across the innovation district. In support of the regionโs innovation ambition, Glasgow City Council is currently preparing a Masterplan Consent Area to support the development of additional commercial floor space to satisfy the demand generated by the Health Innovation Hub. Current occupants include Chemify, Panthera Biopartners and Digital Health Validation Lab.
The Masterplan Consent Area which is scheduled for approval this year will consent the delivery of 30,000 sqm of new Class 4 floor space across 3 serviced development plots that will be made available to the market in 2028.
