Project Overview
The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) is Scotland’s premier conference, exhibition, and live events campus.
Each year, over 269 performances, 52 conferences, and 55 exhibitions, held in the SEC Centre, SEC Armadillo, and OVO Hydro, attract more than two million visitors to the campus. Turnover for the year to the end of March 2025 grew 30% year on year to £54.4m, with EBITDA growing to £7.0m. In that same period, 2024/25, the campus generated £557m in economic value for Glasgow.
SEC envisaged Destination SEC (D-SEC) which represents the next phase in the evolution of the Scottish Event Campus, unlocking approximately 64 acres of development land (60% of the campus footprint) to deliver a transformative mixed-use district.
This development has a dual purpose. Firstly, it will expand and enhance the core SEC offer, strengthening its position as a leading international destination for events, conferences, and live entertainment. Secondly, it will establish a vibrant new urban district for Glasgow - one that integrates living, working, culture, and leisure into a cohesive, future-facing neighbourhood.
To support the development, SEC in conjunction with Scottish Power Energy Networks, recently installed a new primary substation, with sufficient grid capacity to support SEC’s energy ambitions.
The developments would see SEC being a global leader in the Live Events and Conference and Exhibitions industry, creating one of the world’s most sustainable event venues.
The vision responds to the evolving context of the city and the River Clyde waterfront, aligning with emerging trends in placemaking, sustainability, and experiential destinations. D-SEC will create a dynamic environment that is active year-round, attracts global audiences, and fosters local community engagement - positioning the SEC as both a world-class venue and the heart of a new city quarter.
